Experience the Wild West with one of the nation’s largest Buffalo roundups. Take the narrated bus tour and see the dust fly as the buffalo rumble through the hills of Custer State Park.

Watch the cowboys herd in over 1,500 wild buffalo to brand, sort, and vaccinate for the 49th annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup and Auction. Mount Rushmore Tours offers three unique tours available for the roundup on Friday September 26th, 2014. All park entrance fees are included in our packages. Feel the thunder and join the herd at the Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup!

Watch cowboys and cowgirls as they roundup and drive the herd of 1,500 buffalo into the buffalo corrals.

AM 6:30 Check-In - Check in at Fort Hays Dances with Wolves Film Set located 4 miles South of Rapid City, SD on Highway 16W. Check in at the Headquarters Building for your tickets. Breakfast includes an "All You Can Eat" Cowboy Breakfast – Pancakes, Biscuits and Gravy, Sausage, Homemade Biscuits, Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Coffee, Milk, Tea, and Hot Chocolate.

AM 7:50 Board Coach - Board the coach at Fort Hays Dances with Wolves Film Set. Your driver for the day begins the narrated tour with stops at... Custer State Park. Keep your camera ready and your eyes on the lookout over the hills of Custer State Park as you feel the ground shake and hear the thunder of buffalo coming over the hill tops.

2-3 Hours: Buffalo Roundup (and lunch with complete package) - Our lunch stop is in the corrals of the Buffalo Roundup (cost of lunch INCLUDED in complete package).  After the roundup, we continue through Custer State Park up Needles Highway passing through scenic tunnels and by scenic overlooks (be prepared for camera stops).

15-20 Minutes: Sylvan Lake - Stop for pictures at the spectacular man-made lake located at the bottom of Harney Peak.

60-90 Minutes: Crazy Horse Mountain & Memorial  - Staying for at least 1 hour, we'll visit the largest mountain carving in the world. You can visit the memorial and learn much about the sculptor Korzak Ziolkowski in his home studio museum.

60-90 Minutes: Mount Rushmore - We'll spend at least an hour visiting Mount Rushmore. There is plenty of time to see all the park has to offer including the sculptor's studio and the Lincoln Borglum Museum.

PM 6:00 Return to Fort Hays - Return to Fort Hays Dances with Wolves Film Set.

PM 6:30 Fort Hays Chuckwagon Supper & Variety Music Show  - The supper bell rings calling everyone to the feed line where the cowboys serve up your chuckwagon supper. MENU: potatoes, BBQ roast beef, baked beans, chunky applesauce, biscuits and honey, old fashioned spice cake, coffee and lemonade. Our entire meal is served on a tin plate hand crafted at the Fort Hays tin shop! After Supper the Fort Hays Wranglers take the stage for an hour long Music Variety Show including comedy and music ranging from The Sons of the Pioneers to old time rock'n roll. Bring your camera and take some pictures!

Day 1
ARRIVE IN RAPID CITY, SD
Welcome to Rapid City! Check into your hotel and enjoy some time on your own this afternoon. Take the shuttle to downtown Rapid City and stretch your legs as you stroll Main Street Square and the City of Presidents. On each street corner of downtown Rapid City, you will find 40 of the 43 presidents of the United States. Each president has a plaque that states what was significant about
him during his presidency. At 6:00 PM, we will have a meet, greet, and a kick off dinner with your group at the hotel.

Day 2
DEADWOOD - CODY
We will enjoy the morning in Deadwood at the Days of 76 Museum. A tour of the town of Deadwood, that will take in Mount Moriah Cemetery and much more. After lunch we will journey through the incredible Big Horn Mountains and the territory of the Great Sioux Nation as we make our way to Cody, WY. This will be our stopping point for the day, spending the evening taking in the history of Buffalo Bill Cody himself.

Day 3
CODY- WEST YELLOWSTONE
Our journey will take us into the world’s first national park, breathtaking Yellowstone. This is truly a natural wonderland with over 10,000 geysers, fumaroles, hot springs, mud pots, and steam vents. We will end our journey at the Old Faithful Inn. Old Faithful itself has been spouting steam water on a regular basis for the last 1,000 years. Learn from the local experts at the Visitor Center. They will take you on a short tour around the boardwalks of the West Thumb Geyser Basin, and visiting colorful spots such as the Abyss Pool, Thumb Paint Pots, and Fishing Cone.

Day 4
GRAND TETONS – JACKSON
Today we will discover the dramatic view of the Grand Tetons National Park. Towering above the valley of Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons rise to 13,770 feet. Twelve Teton peaks rise above 12,000 feet and support dozens of mountain glaciers. Later we will arrive in Jackson Hole with its famous tangled arch of elk antlers. Enjoy the town square and western boardwalks, unique boutiques, and much more.

Day 5
JACKSON – CASPER WY
Today we will enjoy a beautiful tram ride that takes in the beauty of the Jackson Hole area. After we are done soaring the sky, we will travel to Casper, WY. We will visit the National Historic Trails and Interpretive Center. The Trail Center interprets the significant role of the area’s historic trails and history in the United States, as well as America’s western native culture and the westward expansion. This will also be where we will stay overnight.

Day 6
CASPER – RAPID CITY
We will make our journey back to Rapid City. This will be a free afternoon and evening. We will have a long day tomorrow as we prepare for the Buffalo Round Up! Rest up, as tomorrow starts early!

Day 7
BUFFALO ROUND
Rise and Shine! Our day starts at 6:00 AM as we depart for Fort Hays Old West town to enjoy a cowboy breakfast! We will depart Fort Hays at 7:30 AM for the Buffalo Round Up. We will spend the morning in Custer State Park at the buffalo corrals. Enjoy lunch and South Dakota vendors that are displaying their arts and crafts. After lunch we will depart for the Needles Eye tunnel, Sylvan Lake, Crazy Horse and last but not least, Mount Rushmore. We will return back to Fort Hays for our evening chuckwagon meal. Sit back and relax to the music and comedy of the Fort Hays Wranglers. You will have a foot stompin’, belly shaken’ good time! We will return back to our hotel after the dinner & music show.

Day 8
RETURN HOME
Today we will say good bye. We wish you all a safe flight home. Shuttles to the airport will be provided according to the flight schedules. Thank you for spending your vacation with us. We hope to see you all again real soon.
